Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup glutinous rice flour (sweet rice flour)
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ cup red bean paste or black sesame paste
  • ¾ cup sesame seeds (white)
  • 2 cups neutral oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix flour, rice flour, sugar, and 0.75 cups warm water in a bowl until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.

  2. 2

Divide dough into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each into a circle, place 1 tbsp filling in the center, fold edges up, and seal.

  3. 3

Roll each ball in sesame seeds until fully coated on all sides.

  4. 4

Heat oil in a heavy pot to 350°F (use a thermometer). Working in batches, fry balls until golden brown and puffed, ~4 minutes.

  5. 5

Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Let cool 2 minutes before serving.
