Ingredients

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ½ medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
  • 16 count wonton wrappers
  • 1.5 tsp Ethiopian spice blend (or garam masala)
  • 3 tbsp neutral oil for frying

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high until shimmering. Add onion and ginger; cook until fragrant, about 90 seconds.

  2. 2

Add ground beef and break it up with a spoon. Cook until no pink remains, stirring often, about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in spice blend and a pinch of salt. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, then transfer to a bowl to cool slightly.

  4. 4

Place a wonton wrapper on your work surface, diamond-side up. Add 1 tsp filling to the center.

  5. 5

Fold bottom corner up to meet top corner, forming a triangle. Press edges to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers.

  6. 6

In the same skillet, pan-fry sambussa in batches until golden brown and crispy, 2 minutes per side over medium-high heat.
