Ingredients
- 1 lb store-bought pizza dough
- 2 tbsp baking soda
- 3 cups water
- 2 tsp coarse salt (pretzel or sea salt)
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1.5 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
Cut pizza dough into bite-sized pieces, about 1-inch cubes. You should have roughly 24 pieces.
- 3
Bring water and baking soda to a boil in a medium pot. The mixture will foam slightly.
- 4
Working in batches, gently drop dough pieces into boiling water for 30 seconds each. They should sink, then float back up.
- 5
Transfer boiled bites to the prepared baking sheet with a slotted spoon.
- 6
Brush each bite lightly with melted butter and sprinkle coarse salt over the top.
- 7
Bake for 12–14 minutes until the tops are deep golden brown.
- 8
While bites bake, place shredded cheese in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second pulses, stirring between each, until melted and creamy.
- 9
Remove bites from oven and let cool 2 minutes. Serve warm with melted cheese dip for dunking.
