Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 quarts vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. 1

Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl; set aside for coating.

  2. 2

Combine 1 cup water, 0.5 cup vegetable oil, flour, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until a thick paste forms, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

Heat 2 quarts of frying oil to 375°F in a deep-sided pot or Dutch oven with a deep-fry thermometer.

  4. 4

Transfer churro dough to a churrera (churro maker) or large piping bag fitted with a large star tip.

  5. 5

Carefully pipe 4-6 inch lengths of dough directly into hot oil, using scissors or a knife to cut the dough.

  6. 6

Fry churros 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain briefly on paper towels.

  8. 8

Immediately coat warm churros in cinnamon-sugar mixture, tossing gently to coat all sides.

  9. 9

Serve immediately while warm and crispy.
