Ingredients

  • ½ package (1 sheet) frozen puff pastry sheets
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups neutral oil for frying
  • 1.5 cups whole milk
  • 3 tbsp Mexican hot chocolate mix

Instructions

    Thaw puff pastry at room temperature for 5 minutes, then cut into 1-inch squares.

    Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl, set aside.

    Heat oil in a heavy pot to 350°F (use a thermometer — this is critical).

    Fry pastry squares in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until deep golden brown.

    Remove with a slotted spoon, drain on paper towels, then toss in cinnamon sugar while still warm.

    Heat milk in a saucepan over medium, whisk in hot chocolate mix until smooth, pour into mugs.
