Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, beat 1 cup softened butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.

  2. 2

Beat in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Gradually add 2 cups flour, mixing until just combined.

  3. 3

Stir in 1 cup finely chopped walnuts until evenly distributed. The dough will be soft but should hold together when pinched.

  4. 4

Shape dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each into a 3-inch log. Bend each log into a crescent shape and place on an ungreased baking sheet, 1 inch apart.

  5. 5

Bake until edges are lightly golden, 12-15 minutes. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

  6. 6

While still warm, roll cookies in additional powdered sugar. Let cool completely, then roll in powdered sugar again for a snowy coating.
