Ingredients
- ¾ cup coarse-ground coffee
- 3 cups cold water
- 1 cup ice
Instructions
- 1
Pour 3 cups of cold water into a clean glass jar or container that holds at least 1 quart.
- 2
Add 0.75 cup of coarse-ground coffee directly into the water; the grounds should float and sink as you pour.
- 3
Stir the mixture slowly with a long spoon or wooden stick for 30 seconds to make sure all the grounds are wet.
- 4
Cover the jar with a lid or plate and place it on a counter or in the refrigerator overnight, or for at least 12 hours.
- 5
Line a fine-mesh strainer with a paper coffee filter or cheesecloth and set it over a clean glass or bowl.
- 6
Pour the cold brew mixture slowly through the lined strainer to catch all grounds; this takes 2 to 3 minutes.
- 7
Discard the wet grounds and rinse the strainer; if you want an extra-smooth brew, strain the liquid a second time.
- 8
Fill two glasses halfway with ice cubes.
- 9
Pour the cold brew concentrate evenly into both glasses, filling each glass about three-quarters full.
- 10
Top each glass with cold water or milk to taste, stir gently, and serve immediately.
