Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp butter, cold and cubed
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2.5 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.

  3. 3

Add cold butter cubes. Cut in with a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

  4. 4

Pour buttermilk into the center. Stir with a fork until just combined; dough will be slightly shaggy.

  5. 5

Turn dough onto a floured surface. Gently shape into a 1-inch-thick disk; do not overwork.

  6. 6

Cut disk into 8 wedges. Place 2 inches apart on the lined baking sheet.

  7. 7

Bake until golden brown and a skewer inserted in the center comes out dry, 12–14 minutes.

  8. 8

Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes. Serve warm.
