- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup cold butter, cubed
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup whole milk (plus 2 tbsp for brushing)
Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.

Add cold butter cubes and rub between your fingertips until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs, ~2 minutes.
- 4
Pour 0.75 cup milk into the flour mixture and fold gently with a spatula until dough just comes together.
- 5
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently press into a 1-inch-thick round, no kneading.
- 6
Cut the round into 8 wedges with a sharp knife. Place on prepared baking sheet 2 inches apart.
- 7
Brush scone tops with remaining 2 tbsp milk.
- 8
Bake until scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 12-15 minutes.
