Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat butter in a small saucepan over medium until it foams, then turns golden brown with a nutty smell, ~4 minutes.

  2. 2

Pour brown butter into a bowl. Stir in brown sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth.

  3. 3

Fold in flour and chocolate chips until just combined. Don't overmix.

  4. 4

Drop spoonfuls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.

  5. 5

Bake at 350°F until edges look golden brown but centers still look slightly underbaked, ~8 minutes.

  6. 6

Cool on the sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a rack. They'll crisp as they cool.
