Ingredients

  • 4 links bratwurst sausages
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 3 tbsp whole grain mustard
  • ½ cup beer (lager or pilsner) or chicken broth
  • 2 pieces crusty bread (rolls or baguette)
  • ¼ tsp caraway seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Slice the onion into 1/4-inch-thick rings. Heat oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high.

  2. 2

Add onions, sprinkle with salt. Cook 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until edges char and soften.

  3. 3

Push onions to the side. Place bratwurst in the skillet, sear 3 minutes per side until golden brown.

  4. 4

Pour beer into the pan, scraping up browned bits. Simmer 2 minutes until liquid mostly evaporates.

  5. 5

Stir in mustard and caraway seeds. Toss everything together for 1 minute until glossy.

  6. 6

Serve bratwurst on crusty bread topped with onions, mustard, and pan sauce.
