Ingredients

  • 1 lb store-bought pizza or bread dough
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ¾ tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 whole egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp pearl sugar or coarse sanding sugar

Instructions

    Heat oven to 425°F. Mix softened butter, sugar, and cardamom in a small bowl until fragrant.

    Divide dough in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch rope, then twist the two ropes together into a braid.

    Coil the braid into a spiral on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg.

    Spread the cardamom-butter mixture over the top, then sprinkle with pearl sugar.

    Bake until deep golden brown, 8–10 minutes. Watch closely—the edges should look crispy and the surface glossy.
