Ingredients

  • 1 wheel Camembert cheese wheel, whole (about 8 ounces)
  • ½ loaf crusty bread
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme sprigs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1

Set the oven to 400°F and wait until the indicator light tells you it has finished preheating, about 8 minutes.

  2. 2

Remove the Camembert from its box and peel back the paper wrapper so the top of the cheese is exposed, leaving the bottom wrapped for support.

  3. 3

Place the cheese on a small baking sheet or in a shallow baking dish so it sits flat and centered.

  4. 4

Drizzle the olive oil across the top of the cheese, using all 1 tablespoon.

  5. 5

Lay the 3 thyme sprigs on top of the cheese, then sprinkle a tiny pinch of salt and pepper over everything.

  6. 6

Slide the baking sheet into the oven and bake until the cheese bulges slightly at the center and looks soft when you gently press the side, about 12 minutes.

  7. 7

Slice the crusty bread lengthwise into half-inch-thick slices and arrange them on a plate next to the baking sheet.

  8. 8

Remove the baking sheet from the oven using oven mitts and set it on a heat-safe surface to cool for 1 minute so the cheese is warm but safe to touch.

  9. 9

Slide the melted cheese onto a small serving plate or leave it on the baking sheet, then dip each bread slice into the warm cheese and eat immediately.
