Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cold butter, cubed
  • ¾ cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.

  3. 3

Add cold butter cubes and cut in with a fork or your fingers until mixture looks like coarse breadcrumbs.

  4. 4

Pour buttermilk into the center and fold gently with a spatula until a shaggy dough forms.

  5. 5

Turn dough onto a floured surface and gently pat into a 1-inch-thick rectangle.

  6. 6

Cut into 8 wedges or use a biscuit cutter. Arrange on prepared baking sheet.

  7. 7

Bake until golden brown on top, 12-15 minutes. Tops should feel firm.

  8. 8

Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
