- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 whole star anise
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 2 whole scallion (white + green parts, chopped)

Heat 1 tbsp neutral oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers, about 60 seconds.

Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until no pink remains and meat is browned, ~4 minutes.

Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, star anise, and 1/4 cup water until well combined.
