Ingredients

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 2 whole scallion (white + green parts, chopped)

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat 1 tbsp neutral oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers, about 60 seconds.

  2. 2

Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until no pink remains and meat is browned, ~4 minutes.

  3. 3

Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, star anise, and 1/4 cup water until well combined.

  4. 4

Simmer until the liquid reduces by half and the sauce coats the beef, about 4 minutes.
