Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs beef sirloin or chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) canned crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 4 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1.5 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high until shimmering.

  2. 2

Working in batches, sear beef cubes without stirring for 2 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to a plate.

  3. 3

Add minced garlic to the skillet, cook 30 seconds until fragrant, then stir in tomato paste for 1 minute.

  4. 4

Pour in wine and broth, scraping up browned bits from the pan bottom. Add crushed tomatoes and oregano.

  5. 5

Return beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 12 minutes until sauce thickens and beef is tender.

  6. 6

Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with crusty bread or over rice.
