Ingredients

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • ¼ medium Korean pear or apple, grated
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 pounds beef sirloin or ribeye, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 stalks green onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted

Instructions

  1. 1

In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, minced garlic, ginger, grated pear, and black pepper until sugar dissolves.

  2. 2

Place thinly sliced beef in a large shallow dish or resealable bag and pour marinade over. Massage to coat evenly.

  3. 3

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for deeper flavor.

  4. 4

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  5. 5

Working in batches to avoid crowding, cook marinated beef for 2-3 minutes per side until caramelized and cooked through. Do not overcrowd the pan.

  6. 6

Transfer cooked beef to a serving platter.

  7. 7

Garnish with sliced green onion and toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately with steamed rice and kimchi or other banchan.
