Ingredients

  • ¾ cup (1.5 sticks) butter
  • ¾ cup, packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. 2

Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, swirling occasionally, until foam subsides and it turns deep golden brown with nutty aroma, ~6 minutes.

  3. 3

Pour browned butter into a bowl. Stir in brown sugar and let cool 5 minutes until just warm to the touch.

  4. 4

Whisk egg into the butter mixture until fully combined. Stir in flour and salt until no dry streaks remain.

  5. 5

Fold in chocolate chips until evenly distributed. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough 2 inches apart onto both sheets.

  6. 6

Bake for 11–13 minutes until edges are golden brown but centers still look slightly underbaked. Rotate sheets halfway through.

  7. 7

Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
