Ingredients

  • 5 medium apples (Granny Smith or tart variety), peeled & sliced thin
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ¾ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed), 1 sheet
  • 1 whole egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

    Preheat oven to 400°F. Toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, and flour in a bowl.

    Melt butter in a 10-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat, then add apples and cook 4 minutes until edges soften slightly.

    Lay thawed puff pastry over apples and tuck edges down into the skillet around the rim.

    Whisk egg with 1 tbsp water, brush over pastry, then bake until golden brown, ~14 minutes.

    Cool in skillet 5 minutes. Slide onto a cutting board or serve straight from the pan.
