Ingredients

  • 1 small pizza dough ball (about 8–10 oz)
  • 1 ½ cup pizza sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 pinch garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 small pinch chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Set your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone or baking steel, place it in the oven while it preheats so it gets very hot.

  2. 2

Lightly flour a clean surface. Place the pizza dough on the surface and gently stretch it outward with your hands until it forms a round about 10–12 inches wide. Try to keep the outer edge slightly thicker so it forms a crust.

  3. 3

Place the dough on a piece of parchment paper or a lightly floured pizza peel. Spread the pizza sauce evenly across the dough, leaving about ½ inch around the edge uncovered for the crust.

  4. 4

Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the sauce so it covers the pizza but still lets some red sauce show through.

  5. 5

Drizzle olive oil lightly over the top. Sprinkle oregano, garlic powder, and chili flakes if you like a little extra flavor.

  6. 6

Transfer the pizza into the hot oven (onto the stone or a baking sheet). Bake for 10–14 minutes, until the crust becomes golden and the cheese melts and bubbles.

  7. 7

Remove the pizza from the oven and allow it to rest for 1–2 minutes before slicing. This helps the cheese set slightly so the slices hold together. Serve warm while the cheese is still stretchy and the crust is crisp.
